Please Send In Your Comments on the Proposed Ecosanctuary in Northeast Nevada

American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign

Spruce Ranch near Wells, NV. Site of Proposed Mustang Monument Ecosanctuary
Public Comment Deadline September 19, 2012
The BLM is seeking public scoping comments for the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on a wild horse ecosanctuary proposed for the Antelope Complex in northeast Nevada by Mrs. Madeleine Pickens and her Saving America's Mustangs Foundation. Now is the time to stand firm against any attempt by the BLM to impose conditions on the sanctuary that would bring harm to the wild free-roaming populations in the area. We must ensure that Mrs. Pickens' worthy goal of returning captured mustangs from BLM feedlots to a natural seting and utilizing a grazing allotment on public lands to benefit horses instead of cattle is achieved without negatively impacting the wild herds in the area.
In its Scoping Project Brief, the BLM indicates that it is considering managing the Spruce Pequop Herd Management Area (HMA) as an entirely non-reproducing one by replacing wild free-roaming stallions with geldings. The BLM may also require Saving America's Mustangs to entirely fence off the 500,000-acre Spruce Allotment, a move that could reduce the acreage and allowable wild horse population of the Goshute and Antelope Valley HMAs.
It's important to note that this scoping period is the initial phase of the ecosanctuary approval process. No formal proposal has been made public, nor have any final decisions been made. The BLM is soliciting input from the public about issues of concern and alternatives to consider in the environmental review process.
Now is the time to weigh in to ensure that the BLM does not use the ecosanctuary as an excuse to zero out more wild free-roaming horse herds!
