HOUSTON, (Horseback) – Texas Parks and Wildlife had resumed killing wild burros in the vast Big Bend Ranch State Park. The untamed wilderness in remote West Texas was the site of the shooting of 70 of the animals two years ago until a public outcry brought the killings to a halt after a series of stories in Horseback Magazine.

The burros are being killed in order to make way for big game such as Big Horn sheep. The small equines compete with the exotic animals for scarce habitat.
Big Ben Ranch, not to be confused with Big Bend National Park, is the state’s largest park. It is 70 miles across and is the site of several extinct volcanos as well as ancient Indian pictographs and petroglyphs. The park sits on the Rio Grande River border with Mexico. It is the state’s most beautiful and rugged spot.
