Dear Rescue Community,
Below please see the most current info on the situation of all of the animals of the Wallow fire. Donations are desperately needed, items off the wish list below and volunteers are still needed. Donations will be accepted past this weekend as they will certainly still be needed for awhile. Below is a donation location drop off at 32nd Street and Shea. I am located in the east valley and would be happy to pick up donations/items off the list beginning Thursday afternoon until Saturday at 12:00 noon. Just give me a call at 480-655-6566 and we can make arrangements or you can email me at fourdogknight56@msn.com.
Any help that anyone can give would be most appreciated, the situation is alarming at this point for both people and all the animals.
Thank you.
The following is an update from Tedi in Show Low
I’ve just come back from the temporary pet evacuation shelter for the Wallow Fire evacuees at the Apache County Fairgrounds in St. Johns, Arizona. Debbie Muir, president, of Round Valley Animal Rescue and her very small staff of volunteers is doing a great job of coordinating, but they need help and supplies.
Currently at the shelter are approximately 200 horses, 70 dogs, 50 cats. There another 60 cats and dogs held at an offsite location. There are also goats, pigs, rabbits, emus, and other assorted animals. I am sending photos shortly in a separate email. There is one vet tech on the scene who came on her own time to help for up to a week. That is the only medical staff and they are almost out of vaccines. They have been trying to vaccinate incoming cats and dogs.
PLEASE NOTE: about 8,000 people in Springerville and Eagar are being evacuated right now, so the temp. shelter’s population is going to get MUCH bigger immediately.
This is Debbie’s wish list:
- DHPP vaccines dogs
- vaccines for cats
- amoxicillin for cats if a vet is willing to donate or allow Debbie to charge on her charge card
- amoxicillin for cats eyes – many have irritated eyes because of the smoke
- Large hard shell crates to hold dogs
- Clorox bleach wipes
- used newspaper
- dog food (although currently okay on that)
- cat food
- cat litter
- disposable litter boxes (cardboard)
- small food dishes for cats
- plastic trash bags
- Box Fans or stand up floor fans (it is hot where the cats and dogs are, but there is electricity)
- collars and leashes (some dogs are coming without any)
- volunteers who can handle dogs and cats properly
- NUMBER ONE REQUEST: a veterinarian, possibly 2 as an equine vet is also needed
- I am told a donation of hay is on way from California, but with 200 horses, I think they would take more
Collection centers are being set up in Phx; please keep an eye out for that information. We also have a group of women who are going to collect and transport the items this Saturday.
Thank you all for any help you can give.

This is the latest as of 6:30 Wednesday evening:
The following is an update from Laura Petersen
My phone has not stopped all day with people calling to help, and some local radio media has contacted me because of networking
I went to talk with Colton Shone a reporter with KTAR Radio, I let him know everything I know and it will air Thursday morning (not sure what time)
I also did a 30 min PSA for the 103.9 radio station on the needs of the animals of St. Johns and other animal issues, it will air I believe Sunday
So I’m guessing it will get busier :)
We have a donation drop off site at
Villa La Paws K9 Training Center
10630 N. 32nd Street
Northwest corner of 32 St and Shea in that shopping center.
We will take donations with NO cutoff date as this incident will be going on for a while, but whatever is dropped off between Thursday and Sat will be transported Sunday to St Johns
and if the donations keep coming we can see about additional runs
Right now St. Johns has
200 Horses
70 dogs
50 cats
and also pigs/goats/ostriches/emus/ rabbits/small birds and other assorted animals
and this is being run by a HANDFUL of volunteers so help in that area might be needed if anyone can stay, I might stay until Tuesday and just sleep in the back of my car, Ill play it by ear
I’m awaiting word from Tedi in Show low as to a place to donate money online to Round Valley Animal Rescue, I understand their rescue web site is not up to date to take donations so I will be looking at setting up a first giving page for them
If you have anyone ask you where to take donation please give them the location address above and pass on the "wish list"
IMPORTANT..
I have to go back to work tomorrow and Friday for 12 hrs shift, and I’m not allowed to use my cell phone while I’m working so contact with me will be limited between 6 am-6:30pm after that I’m available for phone calls
But you can text me and on my breaks I can text back @480-584-1339
or email me at milldogmommy@gmail.com and Ill try to get back to emails on my breaks also
WHAT ID LIKE TO PLAN IS :
Go to the donation site on Sat morning, see what's been donated, then let you all know when to come load up, it will probley be short notice, possible Sat afternoon to load up,as I don’t think Villa Le Paws will be open real early Sunday morning to load up
That way we can get an early start on Sunday morning and head up
I will assess the amount of cars/trucks we might need by looking at the donations
You might want to think about personal items to bring if you plan on staying
Cooler with drinks, food
medications
a change of clothes/shoes
personal care items
pillow/sleeping bag as I don’t know what kind of hotel situation we have
Baby wipes to clean up with in case there is no facilities to shower
whatever you can fit in an overnight type bag
Well I think that's all for now, I will email you again after 7 PM Thursday with another update
Thanks again for caring about the animals in St Johns
