PHOENIX - We can't forget about all the pets that were left behind when the Wallow fire broke out. A bunch of them need new homes now.
"We urge people to adopt, especially now when so many are homeless because of these tragedies," said Bari Mears.
Mears belongs to PACC 911, a coalition of non-profit animal shelters.
When people had to flee from their homes in the path a wildfire, they left their pets with local veterinarians in makeshift shelters in Show Low and St. Johns.
Her group raised money and supplies for those shelters and stables.
"The community has been so generous and the local resources really donated so much to the fire victims," she said.
PACC 911 put up billboards all over the valley reminding drivers that animals and shelters in the Wallow fire area still need help.
The group is looking for more money and supplies. Some 30 dogs are now homeless because of the fire.
"The poor things were just left behind," said Mears.
