INTO THE SLAUGHTER PIPELINE
Under management of the Nevada Department of Agriculture, Virginia Range horses removed from freedom on the range are sent to auction in Fallon, Nevada. Most are purchased by meat buyers for pennies per pound then transported across our borders to slaughter facilities in Canada and Mexico. There is no need for this to happen.

COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS
In past years, cooperative agreements were issued to local nonprofit horse groups pursuant to NRS 569.031. This law allowed groups to help keep horses off our highways. It also allowed the groups to foster horses that had to be removed until such time as permanent placement was arranged. Horses were not exposed to “kill buyers” at auction.
COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS WERE CANCELED IN 2009 - THEN THE PROBLEMS BEGAN
PREVENTATIVE MANAGEMENT
The Virginia Range management program was scuttled in 2009 due to lack of funding. There has been no management since then. Coupled with the cancellation of cooperative agreements we now face the very results that horse groups have been warning would occur. The current administration has inherited a broken system with no funding for repair. The reinstatement of cooperative agreements would create preventative management at no cost to the State or the taxpayer.
