MARANA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Marana based Hoofprints of the Heart is calling it the largest burro rescue in Arizona's history, and for these animals, help came just in the nick of time. Misfed, injured, and in need of medical care this big batch of donkeys needed help.
"This is by far been the most challenging rescue that I have done, its also been the most expensive rescue we have done," Said owner James Boudrieu.

This weekend, Boudrieau and his wife Deana worked non-stop to bring nearly 50 donkeys to their rehab center in Marana after they were discovered with poor health and injured hooves at another facility in Chino Valley.

Tuesday, healing began as volunteers and a vet drew blood and classified the burros with spray paint so they can be treated accordingly. All of this care comes at a cost though, this rescue alone totaling nearly $13,000.

"There's not really that many people out there that will actually step up and take them," said Deana Boudrieu. "When we get them into homes and get them rehabilitated, its heartwarming."
Last year, the organization rehabilitated and placed nearly 60 horses, and hopes to find homes for the burros once they are well.

Hoofprints of the Heart is run entirely by donations and volunteer work. If you would like to help financially or lend your time, the organization can be reached at (520)780-6900, or go to their website: http://hoofprints.wix.com/main
