Despite promises to slash spending on wasteful government programs, the U.S. Congress last week voted to fully fund the Interior Department's controversial wild horse and burro management program for the remainder of Fiscal Year (FY) 2011. (See Senate Appropriations Committee press release for details.) As a result, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which administers the program, is gearing up to resume costly and cruel wild horse roundups in July. The vote will allow the BLM to roundup and remove over 10,000 wild horses from Western public lands this year, an action that will boost the number of mustangs warehoused in tax-supported holding facilities to more than 45,000.

Please take easy action below to send letters to the editors of your local newspapers in order to educate others and grow our grassroots army of American citizens who are willing to speak up for the mustangs and demand an end to federal funding for the mass removal of wild horses and burros from our Western public lands.
