BUCKEYE, Ariz. -- Seven horses were seized from a Buckeye property Friday after their owner failed to heed the advice of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
MCSO detectives first responded to the property in July after receiving a tip that several horses weren’t being properly cared for.
Detectives wound up seizing one horse, and told the owner what he needed to do to return the other horses to good health.
On Monday, detectives returned to the property to check on the health of the horses and discovered that the condition of several of the horses had gotten worse.
Detectives served a search warrant on Friday and seized seven horses who appeared to be between 150 and 300 pounds underweight.
The horses were taken to the Durango Equine Vet clinic to be rehabilitated before going to the Sheriff’s MASH Unit where they will be cared for by inmates.
Detectives were unable to locate the owner of the horses on Friday morning. He is facing numerous animal cruelty charges.
