SURPRISE, Ariz. -
A neglected horse rescued this summer has gotten a new home.
A couple from Surprise is adopting the young colt that's been nursed back to health at Sheriff Joe Arpaio's M.A.S.H. unit.
The animal will join five other horses at the couple's ranch.
"He looks wonderful he's gained some weight looks good a little feisty right now but we'll fix that," says new owner Patricia Sampson.
Arpaio says it cost about $2,000 to care for the colt over the past several weeks.
He says a comedy fundraiser planned for October will raise money to care for the animals in custody, and he's invited George Lopez -- who recently insulted the sheriff on stage -- to join in.
"I will forget all the vicious attacks he made and I'm not going to say it on television, were very bad, but I will forgive him if he comes on the stage with me in the comedy hour to raise money to take care of these animals. Of course he's going to say no, he's not going to have the guts to come," says Sheriff Joe.
There are about a dozen other horses at the facility right now, as well as a number of rescued cats and dogs.
